FUTUREHEADS TOUR PREVIEW

12 Mar

Think you know ‘acoustic’? Think you know ‘a cappella’?

THINK AGAIN.

Well aware that these two terms conjure up very specific ideas, The Futureheads are out to change opinion, and have unveiled a video that condenses their upcoming acoustic and a cappella tour into two minutes and will no doubt surprise some people. Don’t think of breezy folk songs and drippy ballads. Oh no, this is much more. This is frantic, this could verge on mayhem. This is everything you wouldn’t expect from four guys doing an unplugged tour.

I’ve said enough – here’s Ian West‘s wonderfully energetic preview of The Futureheads tour. Barry Hyde can have the final word:

“Just because this is an a cappella album doesn’t mean to say that the songs are slow or passive, They’re still in-your-face, slightly mad, aggressive. They’re still The Futureheads.”

The Futureheads will play the following shows:

3rd: BRISTOL, Colston Hall

HELLO PULLED APART BY HORSES!

6 Mar

This week is an exciting week for us because we now get to work with one of our collective favourite bands. Pulled Apart By Horses join the Work It family for the next single to be taken from their new album ‘Tough Love’, which is out now on Transgressive. The single, ‘Wolf Hand’ is an excellent slice of bouncing guitar riffery from what we think is one of, if not the best rock bands in the UK at the moment. And here it is:

It’s released digitally on April 23rd, before the band take on festival season. If you haven’t heard the album yet, go to their facebook page, where you can ‘borrow’ it for seven days and get rewards for sharing. They’ll be updating the page regularly with original & exclusive content.

HEAR THE NEW FUTUREHEADS SINGLE!

6 Mar

Not content with just bringing you a ridiculously unique and wonderful album in the shape of ‘Rant’ on April 2nd, The Futureheads are also releasing ‘Meet Me Halfway’ (yes, The Black Eyed Peas song) and ‘The No.1 Song in Heaven’ by Sparks as a double A-side on the same day through their own label, Nul Records.

Stripped back and transformed into harmonious four-part a capella gems, these are renditions like no other, and we’re pretty sure Will.I.Am never saw it coming. But why these songs? Ross Millard explains:

“We did The Black-Eyed Peas one, because Barry wouldn’t stop talking about it and singing that particular melody throughout the whole of the ‘The Chaos’ tour. I’m really proud of that one because it’s got more chops to it than a lot of the other ones. To me, it’s like dubstep without the beats. As for Sparks, I first heard that song in Barry and Dave’s parents’ kitchen just as we were starting The Futureheads. It’s stuck with us for quite a long time because, in the early days of the band, Jaff said, in an interview with The NME: ‘Sparks’ No. 1 Song In Heaven always gets me in the mood to go out clubbing.’ This sounded so sad that we’ve never let him forget it.”

With in-jokes and nostalgia rife, it only seems fair that we let you in on it all, so you can hear ‘Meet Me Halfway‘ below.

The band are also adding an extra date onto their UK acoustic and a capella tour this April! They’ll now also be playing the Komedia in Brighton on April 2nd. Tickets are on sale from www.thefutureheads.co.uk.

The Futureheads will be playing the following shows:

APRIL
2nd: BRIGHTON, Komedia
3rd: BRISTOL, Colston Hall
4th: LONDON, Union Chapel
5th: LEEDS, Wardrobe
6th: STOCKTON, Georgian Theatre

INTRODUCING PORTASOUND!

6 Mar

Another excellent new addition to the Work It family this Spring (it’s Spring now, right?) is London quartet Portasound, who play bonkers yet brilliant sci-fi-y infused instrumental synth rock. Influenced by folk legends, classic novels and film narratives, they create a sense of filmic purpose in each of their songs.

Their debut EP ‘The Second Renaissance’ is out on May 14th through the excellent Blood & Biscuits (Three Trapped Tigers, Sleep Party People & part of the Pink Mist collective.)  With a different piece of artwork for each track to document the EP’s story, the physical release is set to be prettyfuckingcool and can be bought HERE.

The video for the opening track Dreadnought is here (you may recognise this one!):

And is also on soundcloud here:
